The AMARIS 1050RS in the UK and Ireland is supplied by Instinctive
Instinctive is SCHWIND's authorised distributor for the UK and Ireland. Evaluation, purchase, installation, training, consumables and engineering support for the AMARIS 1050RS are all provided through Instinctive.
Laser-trained engineers across the UK and Ireland
Instinctive employs its own team of SCHWIND-trained laser engineers, based across the UK and Ireland. Installation, preventive maintenance, calibration, gas changes, software updates and breakdown response are carried out by Instinctive engineers under manufacturer protocols.
Case Studies
Moving from a 500 Hz platform to the 1050RS cut average treatment time to under two seconds per dioptre and added four cases to a standard theatre day.
A shared SCHWIND CAM plan and one wetlab programme let three clinics run identical protocols, with surgeons rotating between sites without re-training.
“The handover was the part I expected to hurt. Two wetlabs and a week of on-site support later, we were running full lists on the 1050RS.”
“Instinctive answer the phone. When a consumable order or a service question comes up across our three sites, it is dealt with the same day.”

Benefits at a glance
Innovative and reliable
A repetition rate of 1050 Hz, currently one of the highest of any excimer laser on the market, brings ablation time down to 1.3 seconds per dioptre.² Shorter treatment means less risk of corneal dehydration and a shorter time for the patient to fixate on the green light.
Safety in up to seven dimensions
The 1050 Hz eye tracker actively compensates for every eye movement in five to seven dimensions: lateral, rolling, cyclotorsion, pupil-centre shift and the time factor itself.
The tracker analyses previous eye positions during treatment and calculates where the corneal target will be at the next two pulses. The scanner moves there before the pulse fires, so ablation is free of latency error.
Plan individually for each situation
Every treatment is different. The modular SCHWIND CAM software plans each case across an exceptionally wide range of corneal surgery, incorporating corneal or ocular wavefront, pachymetry and epithelial data so no detail relevant to the individual ablation is left out.
Intelligent planning for wide-ranging, tailor-made refractive treatment. Aspheric profiles for aberration-free and customised treatments based on corneal or ocular wavefront data.
Safe, efficient treatment of emmetropic, myopic, hyperopic and astigmatic patients with limited accommodation, using bi-aspheric ablation profiles.
Therapeutic treatments: superficial and deep corneal scars and degenerations localised and ablated in circular, elliptical or individual shapes, superficial or deep for laser keratoplasty.
SmartSurfACE
SmartSurfACE combines touch-free TransPRK surface treatment with SmartPulse Technology. Vision is corrected through the top layers of the cornea in a single step, and the epithelium is removed more precisely and uniformly than with manual or alcohol-assisted debridement. Suitable for any laser candidate as well as patients with thin corneas, corneal pathologies or complex topographies.
Further advantages
Corneal temperature monitoring and laser pulse sorting for minimum heating and very gentle ablation.
Balanced pulse number and energy: fast treatment with high corneal smoothness.
Immediate postoperative control down to the deep layers of the cornea.
Integrated in the workflow, ready to use immediately with no additional adjustment.
Comfort and convenience for patient, doctor and assistants.
Controlled sequence of light intensity, microscope magnification and fixation points; each step individually adjustable.
Plume evacuation and filter for clean operating theatre air.
Teaching, reviewing and marketing possibilities.
AFLA and ITEC
About 80 percent of the ablation runs at high fluence. For the remaining 20 percent of fine modelling, Automatic Fluence Level Adjustment switches to a lower fluence, giving optimum corneal smoothing even at the highest ablation speed.
Intelligent Thermal Effect Control distributes pulses in a thermally optimised, dynamically adapted sequence so each position on the cornea has time to cool. Infrared thermography confirms the tissue heats only minimally at high ablation speeds.*
Corneal temperature sequence captured with an infrared thermographic camera during trans-epithelial treatment.
Clinical Applications
Refractive and therapeutic corneal surgery, across these usage areas.

Questions We Get Asked
Straight answers on the platform, what it treats, and how Instinctive supports it in the UK and Ireland.
What is the SCHWIND AMARIS 1050RS?–
The SCHWIND AMARIS 1050RS is an excimer laser platform for refractive and therapeutic corneal surgery, manufactured by SCHWIND eye-tech-solutions in Germany. It runs at a 1050 Hz repetition rate, ablates in about 1.3 seconds per dioptre, uses a 0.54 mm laser spot and active 7D eye tracking, and is planned with SCHWIND CAM software.
Who supplies and services the AMARIS 1050RS in the UK and Ireland?+
Instinctive is the distributor for SCHWIND eye-tech-solutions in the UK and Ireland. Supply, installation, surgeon and staff training, consumables, treatment licences and engineer service cover are all handled by Instinctive on 01234 302233 or info@instinctive.vision.
What conditions can the AMARIS 1050RS treat?+
Myopia and myopic astigmatism, hyperopia and hyperopic astigmatism, mixed astigmatism, presbyopia through the PresbyMAX module, and therapeutic indications through PTK-CAM including irregular corneas. Treatment can be delivered as LASIK, as touch-free TransPRK surface treatment with SmartSurfACE, or with lenticular extraction when paired with the SCHWIND ATOS femtosecond laser.
How long does a treatment take on the AMARIS 1050RS?+
Ablation takes approximately 1.3 seconds per dioptre. Shorter time under the laser reduces the risk of corneal dehydration and loss of fixation, and allows more cases in a standard theatre list.
What is 7D eye tracking?+
SCHWIND’s active 7D eye tracker follows eye movement in seven dimensions, covering both static and dynamic cyclotorsion as well as lateral and rotational motion, and compensates for it during the ablation.
What is SmartSurfACE?+
SmartSurfACE is SCHWIND’s touch-free surface treatment: TransPRK combined with SmartPulse technology, performed in a single step with no suction ring, no cut and no flap. It is often chosen for thinner corneas and for patients in contact sports or dusty occupations.
Can we trial the laser before committing?+
Yes. Instinctive arranges hands-on demonstrations, wetlab sessions with SCHWIND application specialists, and visits to reference sites already running the platform. All three are booked through the enquiry form on this page.
Can we hire an AMARIS instead of buying one?+
Yes. Per-use hire and mobile laser theatre provision across the UK and Ireland is delivered by our partner MobilEyes, with the laser, consumables and a trained operator included. It is commonly used to build a list before committing to a capital purchase.
How do we order treatment licences and consumables?+
Treatment licences for PresbyMAX and the SCHWIND CAM modules, ATOS consumables, patient interface rings and SmartSight lenticule codes are ordered from Instinctive by email or telephone. Send the order code, or describe the indication, and we confirm price, lead time and stock.
What service and support cover is included?+
Every installation includes a planned preventative maintenance schedule, UK-based manufacturer-trained engineer cover and remote diagnostic support. Response times and cover hours are set in the service agreement.
How does the 1050RS differ from the AMARIS 750S and 500E?+
All three are part of the SCHWIND AMARIS family and share the SCHWIND CAM planning environment. The 1050RS is the fastest, at a 1050 Hz repetition rate with 7D eye tracking; the 750S and 500E run at lower repetition rates. Instinctive supplies all three in the UK and Ireland and can advise on the right fit for your case mix.
